Ping not working windows 7
EDIT: I misread your post, sorry. Your ping starts, but never gives any results, good or bad. My suggestion wont fix that. Good luck. If your ping command just hangs up completely and never times out, that could be malware. Then try it with the IP of another server you know works, then the IP of a device you are having problems with. Do you happen to have any Spectorsoft or other monitoring software or Vipre Business running on your machines?
Yes, we have spectorsoft, that is installed on a virtual server. I'd rather not take the sonicwall down if i dont have to, would take all network down, don't really want that. I've been trying to find a common denominator for this problem too. I've suspected Spectorsoft is the culprit but don't have anything to back that up just yet. Since the problem is intermittent and I always have a CentOS shell available, I haven't looked too deeply into it. I've noticed that it usually happens when pinging by dns name but I think I've had the same problem if the IP is unreachable too.
I would say that if you can ping some of the hardware OK, then the first thing to do is check to see what is the common element between those machines, and then do the same for those you can't ping.
I'm thinking maybe there is an issue with the network segment or the switch on that segment. Have you tried pinging from those machines to others? This is specifically a Win7 issue. The ping doesn't fail in the traditional sense. The CLI actually locks up completely before displaying any results and requires you to kill the shell.
Ctrl-C won't even cancel the ping command. To continue this discussion, please ask a new question. Laplink Software, Inc. Neil Laplink. Which of the following retains the information it's storing when the system power is turned off?
