The power lumbar switch is located beneath the power seat switch controls.

Hold the control forward or rearward to increase or decrease support. Heated Seat and Seatback : Press this button to turn on the heated seat and seatback. There are three heated seat temperature settings high, medium and low. The memory seat setting also can be programmed to be recalled automatically using the DIC.

To save memory settings: 1. Press and hold button 1 or 2 until two beeps sound. Repeat these steps for a second driver. Driver Information desired button to decrease the temperature setting. To turn off the feature, press the button until all indicator lights are off. Press the button again to move the seat back farther.

The easy exit seat also can be programmed to move automatically using the DIC. After adjustment, move the seat back and forth to make sure it locks into place. R X Removing Headrests 1. Press the button on top of the seatback below the headrest and pull up on the headrest.

To operate the easy entry seat: 1. Pull the release lever located on the top of the seat upward. Tilt the seatback forward by pulling the top of the seat forward. Pull upward on the release lever located on the back of the seat and rock forward until it stops.

Page 23 The shoulder belt may lock if you pull the belt across you very quickly. If this happens, let the belt go back slightly to unlock it. Then pull the belt across you more slowly. Push the latch plate into the buckle until it clicks. Pull up on the latch plate to make sure it is secure. Page 24 What is wrong with this? The shoulder belt is too loose. It will not give nearly as much protection this way. In a crash, you would move forward too much, which could increase injury.

Page 25 What is wrong with this? The belt is buckled in the wrong place. In a crash, the belt would go up over your abdomen. The belt forces would be there, not at the pelvic bones. Page 26 What is wrong with this? The shoulder belt is worn under the arm. It should be worn over the shoulder at all times. In a crash, your body would move too far forward, which would increase the chance of head and neck injury. Page 27 What is wrong with this? The belt is twisted across the body.

In a crash, you would not have the full width of the belt to spread impact forces. Page 28 To unlatch the belt, just push the button on the buckle. The belt should go back out of the way. Before you close the door, be sure the belt is out of the way. If you slam the door on it, you can damage both the belt and your vehicle. If the belt stops before it reaches the buckle, tilt the latch plate and keep pulling until you can buckle the belt.

Page 30 Lap-Shoulder Belt All rear seat positions have lap-shoulder belts. Here is how to wear one properly. Pick up the latch plate and pull the belt across you. Do not let it get twisted. The shoulder belt may lock if you pull the belt across you very quickly. Page 31 The lap part of the belt should be worn low and snug on the hips, just touching the thighs.

In a crash, this applies force to the strong pelvic bones. And you would be less likely to slide under the lap belt. If you slid under it, the belt would apply force at your abdomen. When attached to a shoulder belt, the comfort guide better positions the belt away from the neck and head. There is one guide available for each of the rear outside passenger positions in the second row.

Page Child Restraints Safety Belt Pretensioners Your vehicle has safety belt pretensioners for the driver and right front passenger. Although you cannot see them, they are located on the buckle end of the safety belts.

Page Safety Belts What is the proper way to wear safety belts? An older child should wear a lap-shoulder belt and get the additional restraint a shoulder belt can provide.

The shoulder belt should not cross the face or neck. If the child is sitting in a seat next to a window, move the child toward the center of the vehicle. Here a child is sitting in a seat that has a lap-shoulder belt, but the shoulder part is behind the child.

If the child wears the belt in this way, in a crash the child might slide under the belt. A baby does not weigh much — until a crash. During a crash a baby will become so heavy it is not possible to hold it. Airbags plus lap-shoulder belts offer protection for adults and older children, but not for young children and infants.

Page 40 What are the different types of add-on child restraints? Page 42 A rear-facing infant seat B provides restraint with the seating surface against the back of the infant. The harness system holds the infant in place and, in a crash, acts to keep the infant positioned in the restraint. A booster seat can also help a child to see out the window.

Page Where To Put The Restraint When choosing a child restraint, be sure the child restraint is designed to be used in a vehicle. If it is, it will have a label saying that it meets federal motor vehicle safety standards. Then follow the instructions for the restraint. Keep in mind that an unsecured child restraint can move around in a collision or sudden stop and injure people in the vehicle. Be sure to properly secure any child restraint in your vehicle — There are two lower anchors for each LATCH seating position that will accommodate a child restraint with lower attachments B.

Page 47 Some top tether-equipped child restraints are designed for use with or without the top tether being attached. Others require the top tether always to be attached. In Canada, the law requires that forward-facing child restraints have a top tether, and that the tether be attached. Page 48 To assist you in locating the top tether anchors, the top tether anchor symbol is located near the top tether anchors.

There are two top tether anchors located on the side of the wheel well in the rear cargo area. There is another top tether anchor in the center of the rear cargo area. The system checks the airbag electrical system for malfunctions. The light tells you if there is an electrical problem. See Airbag Readiness Light on page for more information. The roof-mounted side impact airbag for the driver and the passenger directly behind the driver is in the ceiling above the side windows. Page 62 The roof-mounted side impact airbag for the front passenger and the passenger directly behind the front passenger is in the ceiling above the side windows.

You can lock the doors again and turn the interior lamps off by using the door lock and interior lamp controls. There are parts of the airbag system in several places around your vehicle.

Your dealer and the service manual have information about servicing your vehicle and the airbag system. To purchase a service manual, see Service Publications Ordering Information on page Page Restraint System Check Restraint System Check Checking the Restraint Systems Now and then, make sure the safety belt reminder light and all your belts, buckles, latch plates, retractors and anchorages are working properly.

Look for any other loose or damaged safety belt system parts. If you see anything that might keep a safety belt system from doing its job, have it repaired. A damaged restraint system may not properly protect the person using it, resulting in serious injury or even death in a crash. To help make sure your restraint systems are working properly after a crash, have them inspected and any necessary replacements made as soon as possible.

Page 72 Section 2 Storage Areas They could operate the power windows or other controls or even make the vehicle move. The children or others could be badly injured or even killed. Page Remote Keyless Entry System Notice: If you ever lock your keys in your vehicle, you may have to damage the vehicle to get in. Be sure you have spare keys. This is normal for any remote keyless entry system. This also disarms the theft-deterrent system. Page Battery Replacement Battery Replacement Under normal use, the battery in your remote keyless entry transmitter should last about four years.

You can tell the battery is weak if the transmitter will not work at the normal range in any location. If you have to get close to your vehicle before the transmitter works, it is probably time to change the battery. When a door is locked, the handle will not open it. You increase the chance of being thrown out of the vehicle in a crash if the doors are not locked.

The front door inside handles will remain active. Page Lockout Protection When you want to open a rear door when the security lock is on, do the following: 1.

Unlock the door using the remote keyless entry transmitter, the front door power lock switch or by lifting the rear door manual lock. The liftgate must be completely closed to power open or the liftgate completely open to power close.

Page 83 Obstacle Detection Features If the liftgate encounters an obstacle during a power open or close cycle, a warning chime will sound and the liftgate will automatically reverse direction to the full closed or open position. After removing the obstruction, the liftgate may be power opened or closed normally. If the liftgate encounters multiple obstacles on the same power cycle, the power function will deactivate, and the liftgate will switch to manual operation.

They can be overcome by the extreme heat and suffer permanent injuries or even death from heat stroke. Never leave a child, a helpless adult, or a pet alone in a vehicle, especially with the windows closed in warm or hot weather. Page Power Windows Power Windows The power window switches are located on the armrest near each window. Press the up or down arrows on the switches to raise or lower the windows.

Your vehicle has Retained Accessory Power RAP that allows you to use the power windows once the ignition has been turned off for up to 10 minutes. Page 86 To program each front window, follow these steps: 1. Press and hold the down arrow on the power window switch until the window has fully opened.

Press the button to disable the passenger window controls. The light on the button will illuminate, indicating that the feature is in use. Although your vehicle has a number of theft-deterrent features, we know that nothing we put on it can make it impossible to steal. Theft-Deterrent System The security light is located on the instrument panel cluster. Page Immobilizer Testing the Alarm 1. From inside the vehicle, roll down the window, then get out of the vehicle, keeping the door open.

From outside of the vehicle, with the door open, lock the vehicle using the power door lock switch or the remote keyless entry transmitter and close the door. Page Immobilizer Operation Immobilizer Operation Your vehicle is equipped with a passive theft-deterrent system.

The system works when you turn the key to ON. The key uses a transponder that matches an immobilizer control unit in your vehicle. The correct key will start the vehicle.

Page Starting And Operating Your Vehicle Your vehicle is not protected by the theft-deterrent system at this time. Starting and Operating Your Vehicle Page Ignition Positions Ignition Positions With the key in the ignition switch, you can turn the key to four different positions. If it is, then turn the steering wheel left and right while you turn the key hard. Page Retained Accessory Power Rap Steering Column Ignition Lock Release If your vehicle has a dead battery or a battery with low voltage, you can still release the ignition lock and remove the key.

Use the following procedure to release the steering column: 1. Locate the plastic screw head on the underside of the plastic cover for the steering column. Your engine will not start in any other position — that is a safety feature.

You will get easier starting and better fuel economy during engine warm-up. Usually, the coolant heater should be plugged in a minimum of four hours prior to starting your vehicle. Page Automatic Transmission Operation Automatic Transmission Operation The shift lever is located on the center console between the front seats. There are several different positions for the shift lever.

It is the best position to use when you start the engine because your vehicle cannot move easily. Your vehicle has an automatic transmission shift lock control system. Page Parking Brake 2. Press the shift lever forward to upshift or rearward to downshift.

The odometer on the instrument panel cluster will change from the mileage to a number indicating the requested gear range when moving the shift lever forward or rearward. See Speedometer and Odometer on page for more information on the odometer.

Page Shifting Into Park P To release the parking brake, pull the release lever located to the left of the steering wheel on the instrument panel. Notice: Driving with the parking brake on can overheat the brake system and cause premature wear or damage to brake system parts.

Verify that the parking brake is fully released and the brake warning light is off before driving. Turn the key to OFF. Remove the key from the ignition switch and take it with you. See Automatic Transmission Operation on page for more information. Do not park over papers, leaves, dry grass or other things that can burn. It contains the gas carbon monoxide CO , which you cannot see or smell.

But if you ever have to, here are some things to know. Page Compass Calibration Mirror Operation The automatic dimming feature comes on each time the vehicle is started. The indicator light will illuminate when this feature is on. Page To adjust for compass variance, do the following: 1. Find your current location and variance zone number on the zone map that follows. The center position is off and will not move the mirrors if the directional control pad is touched.

This feature is controlled by the on and off settings on the automatic dimming rearview mirror. The Universal Home Remote System, a combined universal transmitter and receiver, provides a way to replace up to three hand-held transmitters used to activate devices such as gate operators, garage door openers, entry door locks, security systems, and home lighting.

Page Keep the original hand-held transmitter for use in other vehicles as well as for future Universal Home Remote programming. It is also recommended that upon the sale of the vehicle, the programmed Universal Home Remote buttons should be erased for security purposes. Page Gate Operator And Canadian Programming If the indicator light blinks rapidly for two seconds and then turns to a constant light, continue with Steps 6 through 8 following to complete the programming of a rolling-code equipped device, most commonly, a garage door opener.

Locate in the garage, the garage door opener receiver motor-head unit. The indicator light will come on while the signal is being transmitted. Use your door key to lock or unlock it. Cupholder s Your vehicle has cupholders located between the front seats. Slide the cover back to expose them. There are also cupholders in the armrest of the second row seat. Page Luggage Carrier Luggage Carrier CAUTION: If you try to carry something on top of your vehicle that is longer or wider than the luggage carrier — like paneling, plywood, a mattress and so forth — the wind can catch it as you drive along.

They can hit things inside the vehicle or be ejected from it, and be seriously injured or killed. This is true for any vehicle occupant, in any motor vehicle, but if you have the Ultraview roof it is, if anything, even more important. Page Press the front of the sunroof switch to close the sunroof.

Press the front of the switch to the second stop to express close the sunroof. Press the back of the front sunshade switch to open it. Press one of the numbered memory buttons to recall the stored setting. Each time a memory button is pressed, a single beep will sound. Three chimes will sound and the setting will not be recalled if you press button 1 or 2 when the vehicle is not in PARK P.
